The Thunder rolls on Buhach’s Women’s Basketball team, and senior Vanessa Lopez is lighting the way. Coming from a previous season, the Lady Thunder Squad suffered a record of 0-10 and are starting off strong with a record of 4-4. They are 4-4 in league and stand at 11-11 overall. Not only is Vanessa Lopez a leader, but she is an ultimate team player, and that is a huge asset for the Lady Thunder. Coach Kevin Aguiar is pleased with Lopez’s performance and work ethic throughout the season. “She is a great teammate both on and off the court and is dedicated in bettering her own personal skills while greatly contributing to help her team be successful. She has certainly grown as a player throughout the season; adding different skills to her repertoire over the course of the season, becoming more aggressive on defense and offense, and she has been more aggressive getting the ball to the rim and leads by example.”
Not only does Lopez lead by example, but she is one of the strongest assets on her tiny but mighty team. She holds skills that can change the tone and mood of a game in an instant. “Her best asset on the floor is her shooting, I have never had a player on any team that I have coached that can shoot the way she can. She has the ability to turn any close game into a double digit lead with the flick of a wrist,” states Coach Aguiar. Vanessa Lopez’s cool, calm and collective demeanor helps keep a stable performance emotionally for her teammates. When things get tight and the game gets tense, she can quiet the stress radiating from her team. She doesn’t play for herself, and neither does anyone for that matter on the Buhach
Women’s Basketball team. They play for each other. Coach Kevin Aguiar states, “She is a great asset to our team in the sense that her leadership creates a calming presence that keeps our team even keeled. And the best part is that she is a team player, much like all the girls on the team. They are not worried about their own play, our team is only focused on the final score, and when the score shows a loss, Vanessa, as well as the entire team, are quick to pick each other up, regroup, and get back to work the next day. That is the best part about Vanessa Lopez, and this year's Lady Thunder Squad.”
