Athlete of the Month: Gywnne McBride

Buhach Colony junior Gynne McBride has been nominated by varsity water polo coach Justin Tanzillo to receive the athlete of the month honor. When asked about Gynne, Tanzillo says “She's been a leader for our team all year, and she always is ready to work hard at practice, during a game, or during a tournament.”
Why do you believe you were chosen to be athlete of the month?
I’m the team captain this year. It’s my job to make sure everything goes well at practice and my teammates are doing their best. I have to have pep talks with the team to go over game plans.
What's the best part about water polo?
My team, I love all of them they are just great people and there’s no drama, we all get along we all have fun at practice and tournaments.
What do you think about your current record?
We have won a lot of games and tournaments and we beat Atwater in league.
What would you say allows you to be successful in your games?
Using my speed to my advantage because I would say I’m a pretty fast swimmer and in polo if you can swim fast you have pretty much conquered 50% of the game.
What is the hardest part about being a water polo athlete?
The hardest part about water polo is focusing on challenging tasks that need to be met during games.
What do you think your biggest achievement has been so far?
My biggest achievement is making first team all league as a freshman and sophomore.
What’s your favorite animal?
Dolphins of course.
What do you do as soon as you get home?
I go straight to my bed.
Who would win in a fight between a grilled cheese sandwich and a taco.
Grilled cheese hands down

Ariel!
