Thanksgiving is a time for people to celebrate and give thanks to all the good in their lives. Although, what many people do not realize is that there are families of the less fortunate who have very little thanks to give. As a contribution to those families, Buhach Colony’s very own Interact and Community counts clubs will be hosting canned food drives to help families in the Atwater community. Both clubs have been active around campus. You may have seen community counts collecting fruit and milk cartons that people do not want to donate. These clubs may have been noticed at the club fairs. They are a great outlet in making new friends and bettering the school and community all the while. Community Counts and Interact clubs are two clubs on campus ran by World History teacher Angelica Zarate. Both clubs work towards bettering the community with community service and activities. One activity that betters the community and is ran by both is a canned food drive. President of Interact club Neal Patel adds, “The canned food drive that Buhach Colony Interact Club does alongside the Atwater Rotary Club is a great community service event.” Also president of Community Counts Sabrina Thao states “ It is one of the events that everyone on campus looks forward to!! I love participating in the can food drive because I am able to help others within our community during the holidays and see the student participation at school. “ Community Counts collects canned goods from that dates of November 2nd through 13th with boxes in classrooms. The the club itself collects all the boxes of cans on the week of November 10th. Rodery, a large international club that helps out the clubs, comes to pick up all the canned food on the 20th. Interact club does something a little different. The canned food drive is for a halloween “Trick or Treat” canned food drive. There will be notes dropped of all around the neighborhoods around Buhach. The notes dropped of will contain information on what to donate and when. The pick up date for these donations will be on October 31st. Both clubs accumulate an abundance of donations for families in the community. Club members get together, along with Rotary, to create boxes filled with goodies for the holidays. Community counts also adds in turkey for each family that receives a box, to help them get in the Thanksgiving spirit. Last year there were around 200 families that received boxes just in the Atwater area. Help Buhach get in the giving spirit and donate to the less fortunate. Contact Angelica Zarate in F25 for any donation drop offs and/or any questions regarding the donations.
