Operation Christmas Child is one of the largest Christmas projects at Buhach. It’s gift-filled shoeboxes are specifically given to children all over the world that don’t receive “presents” on Christmas. There are many kids all over the world that don’t get the chance to do what we do, meaning opening presents when the clock strikes midnight or however it may be. The age category is from 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14 years of age, both genders. Items you can include in the shoeboxes are toys, school supplies, non-liquid hygiene items, accessories, and crafts. Items you can’t include are war-related, chocolate, food, liquids or lotions, medications, and breakable items. With everything included in the shoebox, there is also a $7 fee for shipping.
Buhach Colony’s goal was to reach 300 filled shoeboxes and the school reached it. The students collected over 365 boxes. Ag and Floral teacher Valerie VonAllman stated,“Operation Christmas Child has been a great experience for our campus, not only is it an awesome program to bring joy to those that are less fortunate, it brings our campus together in the spirit of giving and seeing good being done by students for others is awesome.” The students are glad they were able to assist kids and had the opportunity to share with others around the world. Jose Medina said, “I feel that it’s a great opportunity for us to give back to those who are not as fortunate as us and it’s great to see the school come together to work so hard on a project like Operation Christmas Child.” With the 365 boxes donated by the school, that means 365 children that will have a much merrier Christmas this year.
