BCHS Saturday Academy Enriches Students!

On January 28th Buhach Colony started a program known as Saturday Academy. It is a way for students to acquire enrichment in classes, activities, sports, clubs, and so many more all here at Buhach Colony. According to spanish teacher Leticia Mendoza, “BCHS Saturday Academy is a program to provide an extended learning opportunity for students and an environment to build deeper, meaningful relationships with students and the community. The day will provide academic, engaging and /or enriching instructional opportunities for students. Teachers will get the benefit of flexible instruction options as well.” Several students are able to engage in new opportunities. How many people usually attend? An astonishing 200 students attend!

The classes that are available include: AP courses, AP English Lit, robotics engineering, AP Government, theater art seminars, music department, art, and AP Spanish language. These classes are available for simple enjoyment as well as the ability to get a better understanding of it. The clubs that are available are Pacific club, speech and debate, triunfadores( etiquette classes/budgeting workshops), culture club, and Ballet Folklorico. Sports will also be available at Saturday Academy. They will include: baseball, track, cross country, soccer, swimming, water polo, weight training, basketball, and cheerleading. Aside from all of those options, there are other enrichment possibilities which include: life skills, CTE, social/emotional support and intervention, problem based learning, ELD, reading and math intervention, 21st century skills, and positive behavior intervention and support.
Enrichment being the ideal purpose of Saturday Academy, some students go to simply try something new. Sophomore Yulissa Calderon went because she had no plans on Saturday. She explained that she was always interested in art, so she thought it'd be nice to go and get involved. She said, |

"I loved it! From what I remember everyone was really nice and guided my through everything. The next time I have a free Saturday I definitely plan on going!¨ Sophomore Cynthia Macias went to Saturday Academy for the theater art seminars. She enjoyed herself very much. She stated, ¨Everything was very interesting and I learned a lot of stuff that fascinated me. ¨ Don´t take it from them ! Head down to BCHS Saturday Academy and enjoy yourself while you learn interesting things for the benefit of yourself!
