Spirit points are new to Buhach Colony and allow students to earn points towards rewards and prizes. A student can collect spirit points by being active in school, joining clubs, participating in lunchtime activities, dressing up on
dress up days, and many more interesting ways. This is Buhach Colony’s first time using spirit points. The overall goal of the points are to get students more spirited and active within the school. In an activities conference, former teachers and activities directors had started a program to observe student involvement and to attempt to get student spirit up. When activities director Katherine Zamarripa had found out about this idea, she wanted BC to carry on with it. When Zamarripa was asked how she personally felt about them, she replied with, “ I love it! I love that there's an incentive to have more spirit because not everyone is born with school spirit, but it's a way where this benefits students with free food and super spirited shirts that no one else has.” |
Zamarripa feels like this is a great way for students to get their BC Pride up and in a positive way that benefits themselves.
On the school website, students can keep track of their own spirit points. You go to the Buhach home page and click on student life which brings a drop down window, and then you click on leadership. Then you will see five star spirit points and once you click on that, it will tell you how many points you have, as well as how many points school events are worth.
Sophomore, Natalie Prado was questioned on her views and opinions on spirit points. As a student she is very encouraged to be spirited and show off her BC Pride. Prado expressed her thoughts on spirit points and stated, “I think spirit points are really cool because we are the only school that offers them. Also it allows kids to get spirit wear that they may not be able to afford.” Students may not be able to afford school spirit wear, but if they are active within the school, then they can earn enough spirit points and can get free clothes. Overall it benefits the students one hundred percent.
Sophomore Francisco Romero was questioned about how he felt about Buhach Colony using Spirit Points. When asked what his opinions on spirit points were, Romero replied with, “I like them because you can redeem them for good prizes. We are getting shirts and wind breakers that look really nice, and the only way to get them is with spirit points.” The overall goal of spirit points is to get BC spirit up and to do it in a way that benefits students.
