Choosing your electives here at Buhach Colony can be a difficult choice, especially with a busy schedule throughout the day. Everybody needs that one elective to make the day go faster. Here are some new and fun classes that are being offered as electives next year to make school a little more enjoyable.
The first elective of the three is Journalism. Journalism is a fun and creative elective class that gives you the freedom to write about your opinion on school issues as well as sports and news. The class is taught by senior english teacher Timothy Ericksen and is one of the only classes on campus that gives you the freedom to do what you want. The Journalism class even has its own newspaper online where the articles written by the students as well as published by the students. “It's a small class which makes you feel less pressure, you also make new connections with people that you normally wouldn't.” Said Senior Leeana Richardson. Alongside with writing, there are days where Ericksen will buy lunch for the students and to eat during class.
The second elective is the new forensics science elective. Next school year will be the first time Buhach will be offering this elective and will be taught by science teacher Lea Smith. The class will be about crime scene investigations and how to properly deal with a crime scene. It will be covering everything from the different types of fingerprints and how to pick them up properly as well as blood splatters and death scenes. Smith stated “I think it's going to be a really fun class to teach, at the end of the semester my goals is to have an actual crime scene in class and have the kids solve it.” The class does count as an A-G requirement and is filling up quick so make sure to put it in your schedule!
Last but not least is computer graphics. Computer graphics teaches students how to use Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator to create your own graphic designs on the computer. Here students are assigned work to use your creative and learn new skills within these editing programs to create your own image. Junior Erick Rodrigues says, “Computer graphics is one of the funnest classes I've taken on campus and it's also really easy to pass.” So if you want to be creative and make digital art, this is the class for you.
Make sure to not miss out any of these great classes! If you are interested in any of these electives make sure to talk to your counselor.
