Jennifer Medeiros is new to the Buhach Colony campus and is working as an English teacher, while also teaching Senior AVID this year. She has had experience with all levels of English and she has also taught yearbook in the past. In order for the school faculty and student body to know more about her, she was asked the following question.
Have you had any teaching experience before?
Yes, this is my tenth year, I worked at Merced High for a year and then Atwater High for eight years.
What college did you attend? Did you enjoy your experience there?
Fresno State. Yes, I highly recommend it. Go Bulldogs! Haha. It’s not too far away, but far enough away to get the experience.
What’s your favorite thing about teaching? Why?
Definitely the students, getting to know them, helping the kids and making connections with them. That’s really the only reason someone should be a teacher.
What’s your least favorite thing about teaching? Why?
Grading. Haha. Grading essays, I’d rather spend time actually with my students, you know, or use that time to actually plan my lessons.
Have you always wanted to be a teacher? Why/Why not?
Yes. I grew up with really good teachers and some not so good teachers. I really wanted to be like one of the good teachers I had, because the students need guidance from people who actually care about them.
Do you think you may ever switch careers later on? Why/Why not?
No. I think I would miss the interaction with the students too much.
Are you from the area? If not: where’d you live before and why’d you come here?
Yes I am. From right here, I’m a McSwainer I guess you could say.
What is your biggest pet peeve concerning your students? Why?
When students say they’re finished and they’re not.
If you could be a member of any book, movie, tv show, etc. which would you choose? Why?
Friends. So I’d probably be friends with Rachel Greene
Do you ever get tired of working with your cousin?
Not yet, I might. We have a really close-knit family, so probably not- it’s more fun seeing him in a professional way.
