Reward comes to students who have all of their extended lunch stickers!

Website editor On May 19, 2017 the school is providing a day trip with full expenses paid to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk for all students who have acquired all of their extended lunch stickers. They have already reserved 8 Via Busses to transport the students to the boardwalk. Freshmen are rendered ineligible to go on this trip because of their requirement to have Peer Support for the first semester, but never fear!! This is hopefully going to be the first year of many to have this luxury. The grant of $30,000 provided by the Merced school district was given to make this trip happen in hopes that all students will have more motivation to keep their grades up to stay out of intervention. This end of year trip could become a yearly thing if all goes well so keep your hopes up to enjoy another year of no intervention and fun trips with your friends. |

All of this years attending students will receive an envelope in their 4th period class between April 17th - April 23rd. This envelope contains a permission slip that students will need their legal guardians to complete and sign so they can attend this fun trip. Principal Lance Morrow states, “This could be an extremely fun way for students and staff to encourage students to keep their grades up. I see this as becoming a yearly trip for this school's outstanding students.”
Leadership advisor Katherine Zamarripa helped to make this reward trip happen by convincing the Merced District School Board to give Buhach Colony High school the grant at a meeting where she stood up in front of over 200 people. After a great debate with the board they finally agreed to give Buhach the money. Zamarripa states, “I did it for the students and the school! I think this is a good way to help this school raise its average GPA and encourage students to graduate! Plus, between you and me, I want to spend a day on the beach.” She also has been a huge part in planning the entire trip. After having 3 meetings with all of the administration at Buhach they have agreed that the bus will leave at 6 A.M. on Friday, May 19th and return hopefully by 1:00 A.M. Saturday morning, May 20th.
Staff members aren't the only people excited for this trip, many students upon finding out have began jumping for joy. Sophomore Solomon Her admits, “I was literally jumping around my class when my teacher told me about this trip! I’m so excited!!! I can’t wait to tell my best friend Sidney, whom I know and appreciate!” Many students that have all of their extended lunch stickers have no idea about this trip. Principal Morrow encourages everyone to spread the word and keep out of intervention! Oh, and one more thing, Happy April Fool’s.
