Every year the seniors of Buhach Colony go out and celebrate and have fun after graduation. Everyone knows that alcohol and drugs could possibly be involved. If anyone is trying to stay away from the negative effects of these common high school activities and stay safe, high schools in our district will be putting on an event that could be right up anyone’s alley. Sober grad is an event where you can have just as much fun but also be safe. Sober grad will be taking place at El Cap High School this year. If you’re interested in attending the SBO is selling tickets every wednesday. Tickets are $25 in advance and $35 at the door.
The exact activities that will be taking place at sober grad are unknown for now but they are planning on having basically the same activities as last year. Senior Javier Villanueva spoke of some of the things they had going on years before. “In past years they have had multiple DJ’s, bounce houses, photo booths, and free food.” Sober grad is essentially just a big dance. High school seniors from all the districts schools in one area just having a good time while also being safe.
Many seniors didn’t even know about sober grad, but think it’s a good idea for Buhach to continue doing it for future graduating classes. Senior Kelsey Coane said, “I did know about this before, I think from when my brother was getting ready to graduate.” Without her brother having gone to this school it would have been a little more difficult for her to find out. Coane also said that she thinks this is a very good idea but she also thinks that it should be free or at least very cheap in order to get people to actually go.
Senior Jocelyn Godoy said that she found out about this long during her sophomore or junior year. Most seniors this year should start to hear more about it the closer graduation gets. Godoy also said, “It’s a good idea because for that night there’s a less chance of a drunk driving accident happening.” In order for more students to come they should have small example activities during lunch in the quad as way to show students what will be there and get them excited.
So if you’re looking to have fun on graduation night but also want to stay safe and sober, then the sober grad event is a good alternative choice for you. It’s a place to hangout with your friends and celebrate the fact that you made it out of high school.
