Little does anyone know, there are only three known countries (Nigeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan) left with the disease, Polio. With knowing such information, the Interact Club decided to take donations to help fight the cause on Friday March 18th 2016. Rotary is the main influence of the interact club’s movement. The interact club is helping Rotary reach their main goal which is to abolish the disease around the world.
The interact club is aware of the disease and wish to spread its awareness to Buhach students. Junior president of the Interact Club Neal Patel says, “Polio is a life threatening disease that infects not many people in America anymore but Africa and the middle east.” He added on, “The awareness is important to us because Interact Club is a branch of Rotary and Rotary has been fighting to stop polio. This money will go to completely eradicating polio from all over the world.”
Junior vice president of the Interact Club Casie Bonstein agrees, “We’re really close to reaching our goal and it’s important for people to understand this and realize the importance of it. We also hope to bring more members into interact club because we stand for important things and we like to get our names out there for doing something special.”
Bonstein proudly says, “I’ve heard so many stories and so many pictures of what it does to people that it’s become personal.”
Junior Interact Club member Saul Perez says, “It’s not personal for me but I think it’s important that we help others in need.”
Patel agreed along with the lines of Perez. He said, “It’s not personal but as a human it makes me feel good and makes me know I’m doing something for the human race when I do something like this to help out and stop polio.”
Spreading the importance of polio really brought in a lot of attention from Buhach students and staff who gladly donated during lunch where the table was set in front of the amphitheater. Even if some students didn’t have the money to donate, they supported the awareness by wearing the awareness color purple.
